Current American women’s marathon record holder and Olympian Emily Sisson now holds the newest American women’s half marathon record time (66:52).
Emily Sisson, 31, set the new American half marathon record in Houston on January 15th. She set the previous American half marathon record last May in Indianapolis with a time of 67:11. She shaved off 19 seconds with her new record this week.
She finished with a time of 66:52 and landed in second place at the Chevron Houston Half Marathon. She averaged 5:07 per mile but it wasn’t enough to push past Hiwot Gebremaryam from Ethiopia who finished 24 seconds ahead of her.
In her Instagram caption Sisson is pictured gushing at the camera surrounded by an American flag. Sisson says,
“American Record in the Half Marathon today in Houston! It was really fun; it did hurt just a bit 🤣”
Over the past year, Sisson set two ARs for the half marathon and the AR for the women’s marathon. She handily took the AR women’s marathon in Chicago and beat the pending time set by Keira D’Amato in January. She took 43 seconds off D’Amato’s time and finished with 2:18:29.
