Everyone has that story of that one super cool thing they saw while out on a run. However, one Welsh runner may have just topped the charts for the most bizarre things anyone has seen while out on a routine run.
A bizarre and enigmatic phenomenon has been sighted in the hills of Powys. A gleaming monolith, reminiscent of those seen in science fiction movies, suddenly materialized atop Hay Bluff near Hay-on-Wye.
Standing approximately 10 feet tall and crafted from a shiny, metallic substance, this unexpected structure has sparked a flurry of speculation and intrigue among locals and online communities alike.
The discovery was made by Richard Haynes, a runner traversing the rugged terrain over the weekend. The odd sighting prompted a surge of social media activity as individuals pondered the origins and purpose of the mysterious monolith.
Speaking to WalesOnline, Haynes said of his discovery, “I went off towards Hay Bluff towards where the trig point is, and I looked over to my right. I thought it looked a bit bizarre and might be a scientific media research thing collecting rainwater.”
“But then I realized it was way too tall and strange for that. Then I went up to it, and it was about 10-foot-tall at least and triangular, definitely stainless steel. It was hollow and, I imagine, pretty light—light enough for two people to carry it up and plant it in the ground.”
Eyewitnesses, including local builder Craig Muir, described the structure as an otherworldly sight, with Muir likening it to “some sort of a UFO” upon first glimpse.
Unlike its fictional counterparts, this monolith’s journey to its hilltop perch remains shrouded in mystery. With no vehicular access to the summit, theories abound regarding how it arrived at its current location.
Muir himself speculated that it might have been meticulously positioned by a group of individuals or even airlifted into place by helicopter, given its precise alignment and stability despite the windy conditions.
This isn’t the first instance of such an occurrence.
Similar monolith sightings have been reported around the world, from the remote Utah desert to the windswept shores of the Isle of Wight. Each appearance sparks a cascade of conjecture, ranging from extraterrestrial intervention to elaborate artistic endeavors.
Intriguingly, the sudden appearance of these monoliths has reignited online discussions about humanity’s place in the cosmos and the potential for life beyond Earth. Some have even drawn parallels to iconic works of science fiction, evoking imagery from Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
However, amidst the speculation, one fact remains undeniable: the presence of these monoliths continues to captivate and mystify observers worldwide. Whether the handiwork of aliens, avant-garde artists, or elaborate hoaxes, it would likely be one of the most intriguing things to see while on a run.
As speculation swirls and theories abound, one thing is certain: the monolith atop Hay Bluff stands as a tangible reminder that you really never know what you might stumble upon while out on a run.
