A Missouri golfer recently went viral after finishing his round during a high school cross-country race in Ava, Missouri. The unexpected situation unfolded at Ava Country Club, where the golfer, “Frank,” a regular at the course, continued his game despite dozens of runners speeding past him.
(In case you’re wondering, Ava Country Club is a private nine-hole course with a membership fee of $820 per year.)
A video posted by Instagram page @FlashyAverage, with the on-screen caption โWhen youโre on [hole] 18, about to break 100, but thereโs a cross country race going on,โ has racked up nealry three million views in just one weeks.
In the video, the golfer, “Frank,” can be seen playing through as high school athletes compete around him. According to the club, he wasnโt aware the race was happening, having missed a notification sent to members about the event.
In the video, “Frank” is shown rushing his shot on the ninth hole while athletes zip by, only managing to advance the ball a few meters (I mean, it’s a tough shot to make under pressure). In a follow-up clip, which has now racked up nearly 4,000 views, heโs seen sitting on the green, appearing to have given up on his game and instead watching the race.
The incident sparked a debate in the comment section, with some users defending the golferโs decision to keep playing while others felt the runners had the right of way. Regardless of opinions, the video provided (or, I think, is still providing) plenty of entertainment and highlighted the unusual and unexpected clash between two very different sports.
