Calli Hauger-Thackery Follows Honolulu Marathon Win With Houston Marathon Victory 1

Calli Hauger-Thackery won the Chevron Houston Marathon on Sunday, running 2:24:17 to take her first victory at the race.

The Brit moved clear in the second half and finished more than two minutes ahead of Sara Hall, who was second in 2:26:26. Biruktayit Degefa placed third in 2:28:07.

The win comes less than a month after Hauger-Thackery won the Honolulu Marathon in 2:30:44. She followed that with a significantly faster run on Houstonโ€™s flatter course.

Hauger-Thackery was part of the lead group through the early stages before the race broke open after halfway. She began to separate from the field between 25 and 30 kilometres and was clear well before the final 10km.

Hall ran alone for much of the second half and held her position to the finish. Degefa remained in contention through the middle of the race before dropping back late.

Tejinesh Tulu finished fourth in 2:29:13, with Erin Mawhinney fifth in 2:29:36. American Mimi Smith was sixth in 2:30:14.

The womenโ€™s race was part of a fast day in Houston that also produced a course record in the menโ€™s marathon and a course record in the menโ€™s half marathon.
