Barkley Marathons Live Updates: Race Coverage

Our staff will provide regular updates and insights of the Barkley Marathons, considered by many to be the most difficult (and certainly the most eccentric) ultramarathon in the world.

Since its inception in 1986, just 20 people have ever even finished The Barkley Marathons, a 100(ish)-mile race in the mountains of rural Tennessee.

This year’s edition of the Barkley began at 11:37 a.m. ET on March 18. This means the race will conclude (if there are any competitors running the fifth and final loop) on March 21 at 11:37 p.m. ET.

I recently stumbled upon the Barkley Marathons after hearing Michael mention it on a MH podcast. Since then, I've gone deep down the rabbit hole, watching half a dozen documentaries about it. This is one race I'm more than happy to spectate from the side-lines (albeit via YouTube) rather than attempt myself!

I also can't begin to fathom the physical and mental endurance needed to push through such brutal and unforgiving conditions. Mr Lake is a proper sadist!
