Georgia Track Hall of Famer Matt Henson Accused of Stealing From Team Booster Club

Matt Henson, a former Parkview High School track coach and a past president of the state’s track and field coaches association, has been charged with stealing more than $25,000 from his own team’s booster club, according to a Gwinnett County arrest warrant.

Henson, 52, faces one felony count of theft by taking. The warrant accuses him of taking the money from the Parkview Track and Field Booster Club between January 2018 and December 2025, and does not state an exact amount. He was arrested this week and released from the Gwinnett County Jail on an $11,200 bond.

The alleged theft spans the most decorated stretch of Henson’s coaching career. In 2018, the year the alleged theft began, he led Parkview’s boys to a state title and was named Georgia’s high school track coach of the year. He served as president of the Georgia Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported, and was inducted into the Gwinnett County Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2024 and the Georgia Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame in 2025.

The case surfaced after parents brought concerns about the booster club’s finances to school leaders, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Gwinnett County Public Schools said it notified its human resources office and contacted law enforcement. “Although I am deeply disappointed and troubled by these allegations, I am proud of the swift and responsible actions taken by our school, district leaders, and law enforcement,” Parkview principal David Smith said in a statement.

Henson, who taught British and world literature at the school until December 2025, no longer works for the district. The case is pending in Gwinnett County.
