Sullivan ran 17:03:38 and Allgood 19:01:59 through a night of hard rain in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and each took home $20,000 from a race that will pay its 2027 champions five times that.

Ryan Sullivan and Hannah Allgood both set course records at the 2026 Run Rabbit Run 100 Mile on Saturday, at the end of a night of hard rain in the mountains above Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Sullivan’s winning time was 17:03:38, and Allgood’s 19:01:59.

Dave Stevens had held the men’s record since 2023 at 17:22:34, and Sullivan took nearly 19 minutes off it. Nobody has run the race quicker on either version of the course, the old layout included, where Jason Schlarb’s 17:15:20 from 2013 had stood as the fastest winning time in the event’s 14 editions. Sullivan got his first lead on Jeff Mogavero climbing away from Fish Creek Falls at mile 17.6, and it grew by degrees rather than all at once, three minutes by Long Lake at mile 24 and nine by Summit Lake at mile 30. He was not headed after that, and came in 55:36 up on Mogavero.

A year ago Sullivan was on the same course in similar weather and came home fourth in 19:29:32. He has taken 2:25:54 off that. “For me, last year was worse, but objectively this year was worse. I was just very, very ready for it this year,” he told iRunFar. He carried course record splits with him, though he said they were there for his crew rather than for him, and that he had not had them in his mind at all while he ran.

The Hare field went off at 1 p.m. on Friday and the weather held for a few hours before it broke. Most of the 12 hours of darkness that followed were wet, wet enough that several of the leading women took extra time at aid stations to get warm again before going back out into it, according to iRunFar’s reporting from the course. The course climbs 20,391 feet over 101.5 miles and tops out above 10,500 feet, and with a 1 p.m. start both winners did the bulk of their running by headlamp.

Allgood’s 19:01:59 came in 46:06 inside Emilie Mann’s 19:48:05 from 2024, and she won by 1:24:23, a bigger gap than Sullivan opened in the men’s race. She shared the lead with Isabella Poulos over the opening climb, went clear on the long descent to Fish Creek, and was not caught.

Run Rabbit Run was only Allgood’s fourth 100-miler. She was second at Javelina Jundred in 2024 and has two Western States finishes behind her, the most recent of them 10th in 16:45:56 at the June edition Jenn Lichter won in a course record, less than three months before this. “I mean, years ago, I was like, ‘I’m never running 100 miles.’ Now I’m doing two in three months,” she told iRunFar afterward. She had wanted to go under 19 hours and missed it by a shade under two minutes.

Mogavero held second in 17:59:14, and Jesse Rich, who won here last year, was third in 18:18:47 after running part of the night with a headlamp that had failed on him. The man who came closest to troubling Sullivan was Devon Olson, winner of July’s Cascade Crest 100 Mile, who was up to second and 26 minutes down by mile 71. A fall at around mile 89 left him with a separated shoulder. Olson wrote afterward that Rich and Mogavero, both of whom caught him there, called for medical help on their way past. He reached the aid station under his own power and his race ended there.

Nicole Laughton improved considerably on the fourth place and 21:52:56 she ran here in 2024, finishing second in 20:26:22. Lauren Puretz spent much of the night outside the podium and worked her way up to third in 20:32:27, and Poulos was fourth in 21:04:26. Sarah Humble ran second through halfway and dropped late.

Having already won High Lonesome in July, Sullivan has ruled out racing again this year. “If I’m left to my own devices, I’m pretty good at grinding myself to a fine pulp, and I’m not going to do that,” he told iRunFar. Allgood said she has “a lot of things planned,” including a race in February and something international early in her season.

The $20,000 each of them earned comes out of a $100,000 purse, the richest any 100-miler in the United States puts up, and the money reaches seventh place in both races. The winner of UTMB, for comparison, collects 20,000 euros ($22,900). On the eve of this year’s start, Run Rabbit Run announced that its 2027 and 2028 champions will each take home $100,000, which is believed to be the largest first-place prize trail running has ever offered.
