“I have no business doing a running commercial, you know?” Jeremy Renner said as he opened for a new Brooks Running commercial.
The A-list movie star has partnered with Brooks as he continues on a long road to recovery from a horrific snow-plowing accident, which left him in critical condition in January 2023.
Nearly a year and a half ago, Renner was run over by his Sno-Cat, a machine weighing over 14,000 pounds, as he attempted to help his nephew free a pickup truck that was stuck in the snow.
When he exited the Sno-Cat to check on his nephew, the machine kept moving, and soon enough, Renner was caught under the plow’s tread.
Suffering 38 broken bones and various internal injuries, including a collapsed lung, Renner was told by doctors he would never run again, let alone walk.
When Renner first started posting about his recovery on social media, Brooks CMO Melanie Allen decided to send him a pair of shoes to see if they could help.
“The team sends out a lot of gear,” Allen told Fast Company, “We said, ‘Let’s send him some shoes; if we can help, that’s great.’”
Eventually, as Renner progressed, he posted a video of his first time running up and down his driveway wearing the Brooks Ghost Max the company had sent him. As he improved, he began wearing the shoes while interval training on a treadmill.
Now, Renner is the new face of Brooks and their ‘Let’s Run There’ campaign.
Since his accident, Renner has been very active on social media in hoped to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest.
“The only power we have as human beings is the power of our perspective and to be able to change it. That’s a superpower everyone possesses.”
