BY DICK AND RICK HOYT, THE FATHER AND SON TEAM

Dick Hoyt is a Vietnam veteran who has been pushing his 1,000-pound Suntrike with his disabled 27-year-old son, Rick, for the past 10 years.

Rick types on his specially equipped computer, “Dad, when I was little, you could only push me 5 miles. Then it was 10 miles, then 20 miles. Now we do marathons together. In the future, I want to do an ultra.” Dick smiled and replied, “No problem, Rick. We’ll do an ultra together.”

What a tribute to a father’s love and to the powers of determination and goal-setting.
