PREMIER ISSUE
It’s refreshing to read a publication that deals with running and fitness withouttrying to sell you a lot of products. I enjoyed Joe Oakes’s article, “Walking the Walk,” which discussed taking walking breaks during training and racing. Intuitively, many people know walking is
fine, it is the social permission to take walking breaks that is needed. When Mr. Oakes encourages walking breaks, it provides that social permission, which puts more people on the marathon course. Isn’t that what we want? I also en joyed the article by Dr. David Sipes regarding our exercise physiologist viewpoint on distance running. As a naturopathic doctor and homeopath who works with distance runners, I believe an alternative health perspective is also helpful.
I would like to know if you plan on including an article about alternative healing modalities, such as homeopathy and therapeutic massage, within your upcoming issues. These modalities can help support our athletes in training and recovery from marathons.

Dear Editor, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading the
Very few periodicals
that publish serious articles for marathoners at our level. I liked the first issue so much that I have ordered a years worth of subscriptions
I am particularly interested in the advice regarding nutrition, and the article “On the Road with Kathrine Switzer” was wonderful. I have read her books and enjoyed hearing more of her personal experiences.
