High school athlete Quincy Wilson has made quite the case for his position in the Team USA Olympic relay pool by breaking the under-18 world record in the 400 meters. Competing at the Holloway Pro Classic on Friday night, the 16-year-old clocked an impressive 44.20 seconds, surpassing his previous record set at the Olympic Trials.

At the University of Florida in Gainesville, Wilson outpaced a field of top national athletes, including runner-up Bryce Deadmon, to secure his victory. His performance significantly improved his personal best from 44.59 seconds, achieved during the Trials semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.

Wilson’s remarkable performances at the Olympic Trials saw him break the under-18 world record twice and finish sixth in the final at Hayward Field—all before being able to get his driver’s license. His recent achievement in Gainesville ranks him sixth in the World Athletics rankings for the 400 meters this year.

A student at the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, Wilson has already secured an NIL deal with New Balance. Despite not medaling at the Olympic Trials, his outstanding performance earned him a spot in the Team USA relay pool for the Paris Olympics. The top three finishers at the Trials, along with the next three fastest athletes, are eligible for the 4×400-meter relay team.

Reflecting on his performance, Wilson shared with Grant Holloway during the American Track League broadcast, “I knew I had more to give after finishing sixth at the Trials. I wanted to prove myself and secure a spot on the USA team for the relay.”
