WATCH: Aussie Nedd Brockmann Is Running 1000 Miles In 10 Days…On a 400m Track

Brockmann is aiming to break the world record for the fastest 1,000-mile run on a track.

Australian runner Nedd Brockmann is taking on a monumental challenge: breaking the world record for the fastest 1,000-mile (1,609 km) run. Brockmann started this Thursday and will aim to cover the distance over ten days, meaning he’ll need to run 403 laps a day around the track at Sydneyโ€™s Olympic Park Athletic Centre.

Well-known for his 2022 run across Australia, Brockmann is once again raising money for charity, this time partnering with We Are Mobilise, a group dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness. His goal is to raise $10 million for the cause, with donations streaming in as he runs, broadcast live on TikTok.

The current world record for the 1,000-mile distance was set in 1988 by Greek ultra runner Yiannis Kouros, one of the most respected figures in the sport. Brockmann knows he’s embarking on a big task, but his mindset is clear: โ€œIf youโ€™re going to do something, give it everything.โ€

This new challenge, dubbed Brockmannโ€™s โ€œUncomfortable Challenge,โ€ invites others to get involved by tackling their own endurance efforts, whether in schools, gyms, or workplaces, to raise funds and awareness.

Brockmann previously ran 4,000 km across Australia in 46.5 days, averaging 80 km per day, and raising nearly $2 million. Prior to that, he completed 50 marathons in 50 days, raising over $100,000 for the Red Cross. Now, with this latest feat, he hopes to inspire others while supporting those in need.

  1. Good luck Nedd!

Australia has a long ultrarunning history and 1000 mile world records have been set there before. In the late 1990s, Nanango Queensland held a 1000 mile track race. In 1998, the men’s and women’s world records for 1000 miles on a track were set at this race. They are still the second best 1000 mile performances of all time and remain the best ever performances on a track. Only Yiannis Kouros and Sandy Barwick have gone further – both on the road.
