Runners who have spent the past few years collecting SuperHalfs races now have a second set of six to think about. SuperHalfs said Friday that from 2027 it will run a separate series, SuperHalfs EUROPA, made up of half-marathons in Naples, Warsaw, Belgrade, Vienna, Riga and Stockholm and sponsored by the insurer Generali.

The original races in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia have been renamed SuperHalfs ORIGINALS, and the two series run independently of each other. Runners can work on both at once under the same SuperPassport number, but each series has its own SuperMedal, and it is only awarded for finishing all six of that series’ races. Three from one list and three from the other count for nothing, according to the series FAQ, and neither series has a time limit.

The timing is easier to understand given how hard the original six have become to get into. Prague held the first ballot in its history for its 2027 race and drew more than 70,000 applications for a field capped at 17,000 this year, and Copenhagen has switched to a lottery for 2027 as well. Naples, which opens the new series on Feb. 21, says it will keep entries open until its 12,000 places are filled.

The Six New Races

Yeman Crippa ran 59:01 in Naples in February, in a race of about 10,000 runners, to lower his own Italian record by 25 seconds. Among Europeans only Andreas Almgren, with his 58:41 in Valencia, has run quicker.

Warsaw, on March 14, put 14,720 runners on the start line in 2025, more than any half-marathon held in Poland before it. Vienna’s half is run alongside the Vienna City Marathon, which falls on April 18 next year, and had 13,181 finishers this April, according to the Austrian news agency APA.

Belgrade will be the least familiar of the six to a lot of runners. Its April 17 race comes from the organizers of the Belgrade Marathon, which dates back to 1988, and their separate November half last year had 3,800 runners from 52 countries along with a Serbian record of 1:01:47 from Elzan Bibić. Riga’s race weekend in May drew more than 45,000 runners across all of its distances, and Stockholm, on Aug. 21, will be the only race in either series held in August.

Two Back-to-Back Weekends in April

Anyone attempting both series at the same time will find two April weekends where the races sit on consecutive days. Prague and Berlin fall on April 3 and 4, and Belgrade and Vienna on April 17 and 18. In theory that is four races, two from each series, inside 16 days, with a flight between each pair.

SuperHalfs started with five races and gave runners 36 months to finish them. Berlin joined later, the window was stretched to 60 months in 2024, and the deadline was dropped at the start of 2025. When Marathon Handbook covered the series in 2024, it was being pitched as the half-marathon’s version of the World Marathon Majors. A second tier with a medal of its own moves it away from that model, since the Majors have remained a single list, one that now includes Cape Town as its first African race.
