The 2026 London Marathon lands on Sunday 26 April, and more than 30 restaurants, pubs, bakeries and shops across the capital are ready to feed, water and pamper anyone who crosses the Mall with a medal round their neck. Some offers are race-day only. Others run all week. A few stretch into the summer.
Thanks to groundwork from The Independent, we worked through the lot and ranked them the way a tired runner would — by how close they are to the finish, how much you get, and how much effort it takes to claim.
If you are still sorting out the practical side of race day, our complete 2026 London Marathon viewing guide and mile-by-mile course breakdown will cover everything before the gun. Mo Farah is returning as the official starter for a record 59,000-runner field, so the walk to the start line will feel big.
Before the list, a quick practical note. Transport for London is free for runners from 4.30am to 8pm on race day. Show an official running number, course photo ID or course pass at the gate. The IFS Cloud Cable Car and river services are the only things not included. Keep the number pinned until you are home.
One rule of thumb: almost every offer below needs the physical medal. If you are planning the full post-race tour, don’t pack it in your kit bag.

The food freebies
1. Free Whopper at Burger King. Two branches only — the Strand and Leicester Square — but both are close to the finish line and open until 8pm on Sunday. Show your medal and walk out with a free Whopper or plant-based Whopper. Miss the race-day window and Burger King will still do buy-one-get-one-free Whoppers on Sunday and Monday at 12 London branches, including Queensway, Stratford, Canary Wharf, Rotherhithe and Bexleyheath. First stop for anyone who wants a salt hit.
2. Free roast dinner at Kitty Hawk. Trafalgar Square. Sunday only. Kitty Hawk is a rooftop restaurant a short limp from the Mall and no booking is needed — just show your medal. A proper Sunday roast with a view of the London skyline, and arguably the single best “I ran a marathon” reward on the list. For context on why your body is screaming for salt and carbs right now, our guide to what to eat after a marathon is worth a read.
3. Free pizza from Franco Manca. Various London locations, Sunday and Monday. Any pizza from the main menu or specials board. Franco Manca has branches across the city so you are rarely far from one, which makes this the most flexible food offer going.
4. Free Italian-style roast at LAVO. Soho, Sunday only, booking required between noon and 5pm. LAVO, inside The BoTree hotel, is doing a reimagined roast with a choice of beef striploin, corn-fed chicken, porchetta or roast cauliflower, served with roast potatoes, seasonal veg and panino semidolci. The fancy option. Book early.
5. Free souvlaki plate at The Real Greek. All London branches, Sunday through Wednesday. The Real Greek is leaning into the fact that Greece is where the marathon was born, and the offer is generous — any souvlaki grill with chips or rice, Greek salad, tzatziki and warm flatbread. The four-day window makes this one of the best offers if you want to rest on Sunday and eat on Monday.
6. Free gyozas at itsu. Any itsu, Sunday only. A free portion of chicken or vegetable gyozas with the chain’s tangy dipping sauce. Normally from £6.25. A decent savoury snack if you are walking between bigger stops.
7. Free burrito, taco, salad or bowl at Chipotle. Any London branch, Sunday and Monday. Customisable, including plant-based sofritas and braised beef barbacoa. A two-day window and a lot of locations makes this an easy one to redeem on Monday when the central London queues have died down.
8. Free bowl of pasta from Emilia’s Crafted Pasta. Various London locations. Race day through 30 June. Emilia’s team will be at the finish line handing out medal-shaped tokens, good for any bowl on the menu — carbonara, cacio e pepe, pistachio pesto casarecce and more. Unique to this list because you can stretch it into the summer. Pocket the token.
9. Free steak at Gaucho. 11 London restaurants, Sunday through Wednesday. A free cut of choice — sirloin, ribeye, rump or fillet — but there is a catch: a non-medal-holder in your group has to buy a main. Useful if a partner, sibling or parent came to watch.
10. Free burger at Black Tap. Soho, Sunday and Monday. A free burger and chips, with a choice of all-American, hot chicken, crispy chicken or falafel — but you need to buy another food item or drink from the menu to unlock it. Not free-free, but close.
11. Free salad bowl at atis. Various locations, Sunday and Monday. A limited-edition marathon salad bowl built with the running app Runna — sweet potato, black beans, wholegrain rice and a cashew satay dressing. “Personally, if I ran 26.2 miles, the last thing I would be eating is a salad,” wrote The Independent’s Molly Greeves, and we can’t argue, but if you want to give your body something other than bread and beer, this is the one.
12. Free chaat at Cinnamon Bazaar and Cinnamon Kitchen. Covent Garden and Battersea, Sunday only. Indian street food — sweet, tangy, fried dough — at two locations. A nice change of pace from the usual pub-chain circuit.
13. Free pancakes at Polo Bar. Liverpool Street, Sunday only. A full stack with your choice of toppings including fresh berries and cream, Biscoff banoffee, or cookies and cream. The sugar rush option.
14. Free brownie at Cutter & Squidge. Soho, Sunday only. The small Soho bakery run by two sisters is giving away free chocolate brownies to medal-holders, with vegan and wheat-free versions available while stocks last. Worth a detour on the walk home.
15. Free mini cupcake at Lola’s. Various locations, Sunday only. No purchase required. Flavours rotate but usually include red velvet, cookies and cream chocolate, and raspberry and banoffee. The easiest freebie on this entire list — walk in, flash the medal, walk out.
16. Free breakfast at Fremantle Bar & Kitchen. Royal Victoria Dock, Sunday through 3 May. A free item from the breakfast menu — breakfast bowls, avocado on toast, pancakes — plus a hot drink. For anyone making a weekend of it.
17. Free bakery item and iced coffee at Fred’s Bakery. Holborn and Oxford Circus, Sunday through 1 May. A full week of free pastry plus an iced coffee. Good for the Tuesday office-return meeting.
18. Free sandwich and coffee at Mouse Tail Coffee. Whitechapel, Fenchurch Street, Farringdon, Canada Water and Deptford, for a full week after race day. Sandwich options include sundried tomato and mozzarella with pesto, and a chicken salsa verde wrap. One of the longest-running offers on the list and spread across five locations.
19. £30 of meals from Frive. Delivered, Sunday through 3 May. New customers enter their bib number and finish time and get £30 of nutritionist-approved, chef-prepared meals — usually three meals plus a snack. The offer flips into a subscription with 30 per cent off week two and 20 per cent off week three, so set a calendar reminder to cancel in the app if you only want the free bit.

The drink freebies
One quick sanity check before this section. If you are wondering whether a post-race pint is actually a good idea, we have a whole piece on drinking beer after running and whether it counts as a recovery drink. Short version: hydrate first. Now, on with the list.
20. Free pint of Guinness at Guinness Open Gate Brewery. Covent Garden, Sunday through Tuesday. Old Brewer’s Yard is pulling free pints of Guinness or Guinness 0.0 for three days. Bring ID.
21. Free pint at Pretty Decent. Victoria Park, Forest Gate and Walthamstow, Sunday only. An independent East London brewery, so this one has character. Pints are £4 all day for non-medal-holders, which makes it a decent spot to bring non-running friends.
22. Free pint of Heineken at Sport London pubs. Various locations, Sunday between 5pm and 7pm. A tight window but a wide spread of pubs. No booking needed.
23. Free drink at Greene King pubs. Various locations, Sunday only. Greene King pubs are everywhere in central London. Bring your medal or finish results plus ID. Anything from an Aperol Spritz to a Coke.
24. Free pint of Camden Hells at Castle Pubs. Various locations, Sunday only. The Gipsy Moth in Greenwich, The Sun Inn in Barnes, The White Horse in Parsons Green and The Engineer in Primrose Hill are all in. If you want a pub garden instead of a chain, Castle Pubs is your answer.
25. Free pint at Mr Fogg’s Taverns. Various locations, Sunday only. A choice of Stella Artois, Camden Hells, Modelo, Guinness or Aspall cider, in pubs done up like Victorian drawing rooms.
26. Free margarita or pint at Grind. London Bridge, Greenwich, Shoreditch and Liverpool Street, Sunday only. The London Bridge branch is the closest Grind to the finish line. If you want a cocktail instead of a pint after 26.2 miles, this is the one.
27. Free cocktail or soft drink at Clays. Soho, Canary Wharf and Moorgate, Sunday through 3 May. A full week to claim. Clay pigeon shooting available on site if you have any leg strength left.
28. Free pint or glass of bubbly at The Brush. Shoreditch, Sunday only. A grand café feel. Booking recommended.
29. Free pint or glass of wine at The Lamb. Bloomsbury, Sunday only. A classic central-London pub. Book ahead — this part of town gets slammed on marathon Sunday.
30. Free pint of Jubel at Bow Street Tavern. Covent Garden, Sunday only. Jubel is a fruit-infused lager, so this is the sweeter pint on the list. Covent Garden gets packed — book if you can.
31. Free hard seltzer at Vinegar Yard. London Bridge, Sunday only. An outdoor bar with street-food stalls on site, so you can combine the drink freebie with a paid meal if Burger King isn’t for you.
32. Free barista drink at Roasting Plant Coffee. Any London branch, Sunday only. Flat whites, lemon curd iced matcha lattes and an iced rose Dubai chocolate mocha are all on the table. The non-alcoholic highlight. If you are worried about rehydration before the coffee, check our marathon hydration guide for the exact fluids and sodium you should be putting back in.
33. Free smoothie at Lanes of London. Mayfair, Sunday only. Banana, berries, coconut water, orange juice and Greek yoghurt. A useful one if you are staying in a central hotel.

The non-edible freebies
34. Free massage balm and shower jelly at Lush. Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Victoria and Paddington, Sunday only. The “ouchy” magnesium massage balm was invented by a 35-time marathon runner and contains peppermint, bergamot, wintergreen and anti-inflammatory turmeric. Paired with a “good hour” shower jelly. The most runner-appropriate freebie on the entire list. For the DIY version, our post-marathon recovery guide runs through the 13 tips that will actually help you bounce back.
35. Free sightseeing cruise with City Cruises. Westminster Pier, Tower Pier and Greenwich Pier, Sunday or Monday. The rare offer that does not require a medal — a confirmation email is enough, which means it is still on the table if your race didn’t end the way you planned. The code marathonfree unlocks it online. Friends and family get 30 per cent off with marathon30.

A suggested race-day order of operations
If you want to string the best of these together, this is a workable route: TfL back from the finish line, Burger King on the Strand for a Whopper, Kitty Hawk in Trafalgar Square for the roast, a walk up to Lush on Oxford Street for the magnesium balm, then Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden for a pint. You can cover four of the top offers inside a one-mile triangle.
For Monday: Emilia’s Pasta (if you grabbed a token), Chipotle, a Mouse Tail Coffee, and a City Cruises sightseeing boat to float the legs off.
For the week after: Fred’s Bakery, Mouse Tail sandwiches, Clays cocktails, and the Gaucho steak if you can find a friend willing to buy a main.
One last thing. If race day does not go the way your training plan suggested — the weather turns, the cramp hits at mile 20, the legs don’t show up — most of these offers still work. You have a medal. You ran a marathon. Go claim the pint.
