There’s no doubt that Peres Jepchirchir’s new women’s-only world record of 2:16:16 stole the show at yesterday’s 2024 TCS London Marathon.
But a slew of other runners also broke their own world records, some of them in quite niche categories.
Every year, the London Marathon sees the most Guinness World Records set at any one time, and this year’s edition was no different. The 2024 London Marathon saw 44 new Guinness World Records out of a total of 74 attempts.
Guinness World Record adjudicator Mark McKinley said of the event, “I’ve been lucky enough to adjudicate several TCS London Marathon record attempts over the years, and I am always inspired by the courage it takes to train and run a marathon, let alone for a record title.”
“All of our 74 Guinness World Records attempts today have been a display of true determination and we are so happy to be able to award those that were successful not only the record title, but a place in the next edition of our book to share their achievement with the world,” he added.
