Tony Darracoté, the creator of the running meme account @yaboyscottjurek, announced this week that he is stepping away from social media after posting a string of memes about the running apparel brand Satisfy and its recent collaboration with Adidas.
In a statement shared to his followers, Darracoté wrote that the decision came after he was contacted directly by people connected to the company.
“Hi everyone,” the post read. “After taking some time to reflect on my recent post about Satisfy and having been reached out to directly by some individuals at the company, I have decided to take a break from social media and step away from the account.”
“As I currently fear for the safety of myself and my family, I feel this is the best option. Thank you for your understanding.”
He signed off, “Peace and love, Tony (yaboy).”
What led up to the post
In the days before the announcement, @yaboyscottjurek posted several memes about Satisfy and its Adidas collaboration, which features a perforated, distressed aesthetic across both apparel and footwear. The posts also took aim at Satisfy’s pricing and brand positioning.
One image was a doctored still from the 1994 film “Forrest Gump,” showing a character holding a blue Adidas Originals shoebox containing the black Satisfy x Adidas Adizero shoe. Another post showed a portrait captioned, “What if the reason Satisfy made such a shitty shoe with ‘The Rocker’ was so they could still collab with shoe brands without it being a conflict of interest…”
A separate post, captioned “SATISFY BE LIKE,” read, “We put our logo on an Adidas road shoe. That’ll be $900.” Another took a Satisfy t-shirt with what the account described as the Adidas trefoil rendered in moth-eaten holes, paired with a Reddit comment joking that “the strategic pattern looks almost like their logo.”
It is not clear who at Satisfy contacted Darracoté, or whether the people who reached out are employees, sponsored athletes, or other affiliated individuals. Darracoté did not name them in his post, and his statement does not detail what was said.
Response from the running community
The posts drew dozens of comments from sponsored athletes, brand accounts, and other figures in the running world before Darracoté’s announcement.
The account @massimoalps weighed in by sharing his own experience with online ribbing. “If this is true that is absolutely wild,” he wrote. “We were roasted like 5 days in a row here for our trail launch last summer. We took it in stride, had a laugh too for a moment, and moved on. If anything, I said to myself.. ‘Guess we’ve arrived!’. Contrary to what some believe (not all), we’re a pretty chill bunch.”
Other commenters questioned the premise that the account posed any threat. “How can you be afraid of the least dangerous group of runners in existence?” the user @buffalowarrior wrote. The account @runningwithsimon asked, “Did their lawyer say they would put holes in your body AND charge you $200 for it?” a reference to the perforated design of the Satisfy x Adidas shoes.
A reply on one of the posts from the Olympic marathoner Molly Seidel, posting from her verified account @bygolly.molly, read simply, “U mad bro?” That comment then drew a thread of its own, including one user who told Seidel, “I was shocked when you signed with Satisfy. I thought you would have gone with actual performance brands, not overpriced gorpcore for wealthy people trying to cosplay as trail runners.”
The professional ultrarunner Billy Yang, posting from his verified account, left a one-line comment: “Holey shit.”

A prior connection to the brand
Darracoté and Satisfy are not strangers. In June 2022, Possessed Magazine, Satisfy’s editorial publication, ran a long feature on him titled “Tony Darracoté is Possessed.” The piece, with an introduction from then-editor Adam Voidoid, profiled Darracoté as the anonymous figure behind an account that had been “in tune with the pulse of the ultrarunning scene.” It also documented his self-described attempts to qualify for the Boston Marathon on a Razor scooter and his interest in purchasing the home used as the Swan residence in the “Twilight” films.
The 2022 feature predates the Satisfy x Adidas partnership and the current dispute by nearly four years. It does establish, however, that Darracoté had a documented public relationship with the brand long before the recent posts.

Genuine or another bit?
Whether Darracoté will return to posting is unknown. His account has historically blurred the line between sincere commentary and elaborate satire, and some readers raised the possibility in the comments that the farewell statement itself is part of an ongoing piece of performance. Others took the post at face value, noting that the underlying claim, being contacted by representatives of a brand in a way that left him fearing for his family’s safety, is serious if accurate.
For now, the only public information is what Darracoté himself posted. There is no documentation of the messages he says he received, no public statement from Satisfy, and no third-party account of what happened between the meme posts and the announcement.
Marathon Handbook has reached out to Satisfy for comment and to Darracoté directly. This article will be updated if either provides a statement.
