Truett Hanes is back.

He didn’t just win the Drop13 Half Marathon this weekend; he ran a 1:06:03 PR while wearing jeans.

The 22-year-old from Eugene, Ore., took first place overall at the (extremely) downhill race in Utah, finishing with a time that shaved nearly 48 minutes off his previous half marathon PR. That’s not a typo, his previous best was around 1:54, making this 1:06 a big leap forward.

Heart rate maxed out ✅
Beat my last half marathon PR by 48 minutes. Absolutely smoked my 8-year-old self,
” Hanes wrote in an Instagram post recapping the race.

The event was the Drop13 Big Cottonwood Canyon Half Marathon, known for its high-speed, wild downhill course. Starting at Solitude Mountain Resort at over 8,700 feet and dropping more than 3,000 feet across 13.1 miles, it’s a favorite for runners chasing ridiculous (and arguably illegitimate) PRs.

Hanes has built a reputation for blending extreme physical feats with unconventional style, often racing in jeans and tackling endurance events with a minimalist mindset.

In February 2025, he broke the Guinness World Record for most pull-ups in 24 hours, completing 10,001 reps.

He also previously ran a 2:42 marathon in jeans, making him arguably the fastest jeans-wearing marathoner to date, if you consider that a thing.

He’s also the son of Cameron Hanes, an elite bowhunter and ultrarunner whose known for his guest spots on the Joe Rogan Experience, and his philosophy of “keep hammering,” which has clearly shaped Truett’s mental and physical approach.

Hanes said he went into the race with no specific pacing strategy, just a mission to give max effort.

No game plan other than 100% effort every race. Finally paid off this time,” he wrote after the race, tagging Black Rifle Coffee, one of his sponsors.

As someone who’s lost a lot in competition, I have to admit that winning is much better.

The win marked a major breakthrough for Hanes, who has previously shared frustrations with coming up short in past races. With his current trajectory, he’s targeting a new goal: sub-2:30 in the marathon. Judging by this 1:06 performance, that could be within reach soon. But he might have to find himself a downhill 26.2 miler, just to be sure.
