While Sabastian Sawe was still being interviewed about his 1:59:30 world record on Sunday, a handful of fellow finishers had already gone home and listed their TCS London Marathon medal on eBay.
By Tuesday morning, more than 30 listings tagged “London Marathon 2026” were live on eBay UK, almost all of them posted in the 48 hours after the race. The highest Buy It Now price we found was £259.75. One auction had reached 27 bids and £61.07 by Monday evening, with several days still to run. Another, posted at 21:49 on race day, had pulled in 19 bids and £128.13. A men’s small medal-and-T-shirt bundle had reached £205.27 across 22 bids. The bottom of the market was visible too: a couple of race-day listings went up for under £11.
The 2026 race set a record-heavy backdrop for this annual habit. Around 59,000 runners entered, 59,830 finished, and the event picked up a Guinness World Record for the largest marathon ever staged. The medal, designed around the Cutty Sark and made from recycled materials, ended up on two world-record holders. Sawe became the first man to officially run a marathon under two hours. Tigst Assefa lowered her own women-only world record to 2:15:41, with Hellen Obiri second in 2:15:53 and Joyciline Jepkosgei third in 2:15:55.
Buyers tend to be ballot-rejected runners who want a piece of a race they could not start, or collectors. The 2026 medal has obvious appeal to the second group. Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59:40 in Vienna in 2019 was a controlled exhibition that never went into the record books. Sawe’s 1:59:30 on Sunday did, and every finisher behind him went home with a medal stamped with the date.
A few caveats if you are tempted to bid. Several of the priciest listings come from sellers with zero or very low feedback scores, postage on the most expensive items is often unspecified, and some listings bundle the medal with the race bib, which would tie it to a named finisher in the official results.
With nearly 60,000 finishers on the streets on Sunday, the supply is likely to grow. If you missed out on a place this year, the 2027 London Marathon ballot is already open, or you can look at the other six World Marathon Majors for a guaranteed start line of your own.
