Women’s-Only Track Meet, Athlos, Set To Return In 2025 following Successful Debut

The meet, founded by Alexis Ohanian and Gabby Thomas, aims to promote women's sport and encourage the next generation of female athletes

Athlos, the women-only track meet, will return to Icahn Stadium in New York City on October 10, 2025, following its inaugural event in 2024.

Founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and Olympic champion Gabby Thomas, Athlos drew significant attention last year due to its substantial prize purse of $663,000, surpassing both the Olympic Games and Diamond League Finals in prize offerings.

Athlos aims to combine elite-level track competition with broader cultural appeal, featuring musical performances and engaging fan experiences.

In 2024, Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion performed, giving the event a big boost in popularity and social media reach. Organizers have indicated a similar high-profile musical guest will perform this year, although details have not yet been announced.

Last year, Athlos attracted over three million viewers globally, a substantial audience attributed to the organizers’ choice of accessible streaming platforms such as ESPN+, YouTube, X, and DAZN.

Unlike traditional track meets, which often require subscriptions to smaller platforms like FloTrack for viewing, Athlos ensured easy and free access, widening its audience significantly.

Several elite track athletes have confirmed their participation for the 2025 event, including Gabby Thomas, herself, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, Masai Russell, Olympic gold medalist in the hurdles, Marileidy Paulino, the first female Olympic gold medalist from the Dominican Republic, and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the reigning Olympic champion in the 100m hurdles. Camacho-Quinn, who won her event at Athlos last year, will be defending her title.

In addition to showcasing top-tier athletes, Athlos also focuses on promoting women’s sports and encouraging the next generation of female athletes.

Earlier this year, the organization arranged a meet-and-greet between the Brooklyn-based Jeuness Track Club and professional athletes at the Millrose Games in New York, highlighting Athlos’s community outreach efforts.

Ohanian, well-known for his investments in women’s sports beyond track and field, co-founded Angel City FC and supports The Sports Bra, a franchise of sports bars focusing exclusively on women’s sports.

Further announcements, including the confirmed list of competing athletes, prize details, and the featured musical act, are expected in the coming months.
