On Wednesday morning, sports fans around the globe will be able to take their first official step toward attending the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Registration for the LA28 ticket draw opens Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. Eastern time, giving the public a chance to secure access to tickets for all Olympic sports when sales begin later this year.

The registration process does not require payment and is open to anyone 18 or older. Those who sign up will be entered into a randomized draw that assigns time slots for future ticket purchases, beginning in April.

A milestone moment at the Coliseum

On the eve of registration, organizers marked the moment with a large gathering at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, one of the central venues for the 2028 Games.

More than 300 Olympic and Paralympic athletes attended the event, representing 28 different Olympic Games dating back to 1960. Organizers described it as one of the largest assemblies of Olympians and Paralympians ever held outside of competition.

The event included a ceremonial lighting of the Coliseum cauldron, a symbol meant to signal the start of the journey for both athletes and fans toward the Los Angeles Games.

โ€œLA28 is ready to welcome the world and the most spectacular athletes from every corner of it for what will be the greatest Games in history,โ€ said Reynold Hoover, the chief executive officer of LA28. โ€œA ticket to the Games is more than just a seat in the stands. Itโ€™s an opportunity to witness history and be part of the awe-inspiring moments where we celebrate the best of humanity and experience unity through the power of sport.โ€

How the ticket draw works

Registration opens at Tickets.LA28.org. Signing up places fans into a lottery-style system that randomly assigns purchase windows for upcoming ticket drops.

LA28 officials said additional details about ticket pricing and availability will be released once registration opens. Ticket sales are scheduled to begin in April.

The ticketing process will be managed by AXS and EVENTIM, LA28โ€™s official ticketing service providers. In addition to standard event tickets, hospitality packages that include tickets will go on sale in 2026 through On Location.

Visa will be the exclusive payment partner for ticket purchases, continuing its long-standing sponsorship of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A historic Games for Los Angeles

The 2028 Olympics and Paralympics are expected to feature more than 15,000 athletes from around the world, competing across venues throughout Southern California, from coastal sites to major urban arenas.

Los Angeles will become just the third city to host the Olympic Games three times, following previous editions in 1932 and 1984. The city will also host the Paralympic Games for the first time.

Organizers have highlighted several milestones planned for LA28, including becoming the first Olympic Games to feature more women athletes than men and the introduction of new Olympic and Paralympic sports. The Games are also notable for not building any new permanent venues, relying instead on existing infrastructure.

LA28 is operating as an independently funded, nonprofit organization, supported by commercial partnerships, licensing, hospitality and ticketing agreements, along with backing from the International Olympic Committee.

While registration opens Wednesday, organizers cautioned that registering does not guarantee ticket access. Availability will depend on demand, and all purchases will be subject to additional terms and conditions.
