When Lucy Scott crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon on November 2, 2025, she made marathon history.
At just 20 years old, the University of Nottingham history student became the youngest person ever to complete all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors, a feat that even many lifelong runners never achieve.
Scott, from Bishopโs Stortford in Hertfordshire, completed the seven-race circuit, Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York City, and Sydney, over the span of just 18 months.
Theย Sydney Marathonย was officially added to the Majors series in 2024, with 2025 being its first edition as a Major, and expanding the once-familiarย Six Star Medalย into a newย Seven Star Hall of Fameย honour. The Abbott World Marathon Majors confirmed Scottโs recognition as the youngest seven-star athlete following her finish in New York.
Speaking after the race, she said: โItโs the best thing Iโve ever done.โ

Scott only began running in 2024, during her first year at university, and had no background in the sport before entering the TCS London Marathon that spring. Her debut doubled as a fundraiser for the Essex Disabled Sport Foundation, for which she raised ยฃ7,685.
Her journey was partly inspired by her father, John Scott, who had been training to earn his own Six Star Medal before an injury and the Covid pandemic forced him to stop running.
โI remember watching my dad running when I was younger,โ Lucy said. โHe inspired me to start, and my parents have travelled everywhere to support me. I think theyโve loved the experience as much as I have.โ
Across the seven races, Scott averaged a time of 4:30:07, showing impressive consistency for a runner balancing university life with international travel and recovery. Her personal best came at the Sydney Marathon in 2025, where she ran 4:18:38.

The Abbott World Marathon Majors began in 2006, uniting the most prestigious city marathons in the world: Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, and later Tokyo.
Since the addition of Sydney for 2025, the series has reflected a more global spread of marathon running, and completion of all seven remains an incredibly rare achievement. According to Abbott WMM, the average age of a Six Star finisher is over 50, making Scottโs youth especially striking.
Next year, she plans to return to the TCS London Marathon for a third time, if she can balance her studies and fundraising goals. Sheโs also keeping an eye on future expansions to the Majors. Abbott has floated the idea of a future Nine Star Medal if Cape Town and Shanghai join the series.
โIf I can get a place, I would love to do that,โ she said.
