Originally from Massachusetts, EDDIE BATEMAN

moved to West Palm Beach in 1981 and claims he had nothing to do with the 2000 election recount. He uses self-hypnosis as part of his training. He runs about 40 miles a week. Eddie completed his 50 States & D.C. marathons at the Ocean State Marathon in Providence, Rhode Island, on November 14, 1999. He works at Phipps Park in Palm Beach. His first-ever marathon

was on January 17, 1993, in Miami. His plans call for the completion of a marathon in all the Canadian provinces and territories on August 25, 2001, in Yellowknife. He’ ll run in Arctic Bay, Nunuvat, on July 1. Eddie’s coldest-ever marathon was 16 degrees in Delaware in 1995, and his warmest in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1999, where temperatures reached 94.

JONATHAN BEVERLY was for two years this

magazine’s European correspondent, reporting on marathons in Venice and Rotterdam. When he returned to the United States last year, he became the editor of Running Times magazine, which he edits from New York City. He will be a featured speaker at this year’s Grandma’s Marathon, approximately two months after Jon and his wife Tracy welcome their first child.
