The Asics Superblast 3 is officially here, and it’s far more than a minor refresh. Asics announced the third generation of its flagship super trainer on February 13, with a March 1 release date, a revamped midsole built around the brand’s most advanced foam, and a price tag of $200 in the US and €220 in Europe.
The original Superblast arrived in 2022 as a quiet release that became nearly impossible to find once word of mouth spread. The Superblast 2 followed in 2024 with modest updates and better availability. This time, Asics has gone much further — swapping the core midsole material, redesigning the forefoot geometry, reworking the lacing system, and shaving weight in the process.

A Racing Foam Moves to an Everyday Trainer
The biggest change is underfoot. The Superblast 2 used a full midsole of Asics’ nitrogen-infused, EVA-based FF Blast Plus foam. The Superblast 3 replaces the bulk of that with FF Leap, a next-generation A-TPU superfoam previously found only in Asics’ elite racing shoes — the Metaspeed Sky, Edge Tokyo, and Metaspeed Ray.
In the new construction, a 10mm layer of the firmer FF Blast Plus sits closest to the ground for durability and structure, while the softer, more energetic FF Leap makes up the rest of the stack. According to Asics, this combination produces a 15.4 percent increase in energy return compared to the Superblast 2.
Stack height has grown by 1.5mm to 46.5mm under the heel and 38.5mm in the forefoot, with an 8mm heel-to-toe drop. Despite the added material, the shoe is 10 grams lighter than its predecessor at 239 grams (8.4 oz) for a men’s size 9 — worth noting given that the Superblast 2 had actually gained weight over the original.
“Knowing we just had some really big steps forward last spring in the foam on our racing product, we wanted to take that foam and bring that into an everyday trainer,” said Paul Lang, Asics’ global senior product manager.
Asics also made the diamond-shaped forefoot bounce pod — a feature shared across its Blast shoe family — more pronounced and aggressive on this version, describing it as creating a piston effect for propulsion. A strongly flared midsole, especially around the heel, is designed to stabilize the softer foam underfoot.

Separating From the Megablast
Part of the motivation behind such a substantial update was the Megablast, a sibling shoe Asics launched in September 2025. On paper, the Superblast 2 and Megablast were strikingly similar, which left many runners wondering why both existed.
By pushing the Superblast 3 toward a softer, bouncier ride, Asics is deliberately creating separation between the two. The Megablast now occupies the firmer, more performance-oriented end of the spectrum, while the Superblast 3 leans into maximum cushioning and energy return.

Upper and Fit Changes
Above the midsole, the engineered woven upper has been revised for a sleeker fit. The most noticeable change is the lacing system: traditional punched eyelets have been replaced by cord loops on all but the top two rows. The design is intended to distribute pressure more evenly across the top of the foot and improve midfoot lockdown. A generously padded heel collar rounds out the comfort updates.
On sustainability, the Superblast 3 incorporates recycled polyester in the upper, a dope-dyed sockliner designed to reduce water usage during production, and bio-based materials in the midsole.
The launch colorway — a vivid graphic blending blue, green, yellow, and red — was designed to invoke a temporal fold, a theoretical concept of bending spacetime to move faster than the speed of light. Additional colorways at launch include White/Black, Cobalt Burst/Light Orange, and Seashell/Sun Coral.

Where the Superblast 3 Fits
The Superblast 3 is positioned as a versatile, unplated super trainer suited to everything from easy and recovery runs to uptempo long runs. It could also serve as a marathon-day option for runners who want abundant cushioning without a carbon plate, though its stack height exceeds World Athletics’ competition height limit.
Within Asics’ lineup, it sits at the top of the Blast Series, which also includes the Novablast, Sonicblast, and Megablast.
“This is essentially the shoe that created the unplated super trainer,” Lang said. “We’ve seen the industry follow in spades ever since. With the expansion of the model and wider points of distribution, we’ve moved past that runner that’s finding us through digital methods, and now there’s a consumer going into their local run shop and finding out what this experience can be like underfoot.”
