There’s no doubt that the growing technology in the world of super shoes has propelled runners to record-breaking performances. Because of this rapid and ever-changing technology, World Athletics, the global governing body for track and field, has implemented a streamlined way to ensure that super shoes adhere to the regulations set forth by World Athletics.
The regulations set clear and objective standards for super shoes, including factors such as stack height, carbon or rigid plates, and availability to the general public. They also outline the criteria for prototype shoes, which manufacturers may test in competitions before retail release.
New Shoe-Check Application Features
The newly launched shoe-check site allows users to search for specific shoes by entering the model name or number and provides comprehensive information on each shoe.
This feature is particularly useful for athletes, coaches, and officials, as model names are not always printed on the shoes. A picture of the shoe is also displayed to ensure accurate identification, even if only the colorway differs.
The application includes a searchable database of over 700 approved shoes, including spikes and road footwear. Users can filter the list by manufacturer for a more streamlined search experience. Upon searching, the app confirms whether a shoe is approved, specifies the disciplines it can be used in, and notes any restrictions or timeframes on its approval.
For development shoes, which cannot be worn at World Athletics Series events or the Olympics, the app indicates this status. Additionally, it provides the public release date for available shoes.
The shoe-check is available via the World Athletics website, is designed for easy use by runners, coaches, and officials at all levels.
