How to Use the Half Marathon Pace Chart:

If you have a target half marathon finishing time, check the last column and find your target time.   

Then check the corresponding pace – this is the average pace you have to run throughout your half marathon.

If you don’t have a target finishing time, you can use your finishing times from other events (i.e. a 10k) to estimate a target half marathon finishing time (although you likely will require distance training to maintain the same pace over a longer distance).

A sub-2:00 half marathon (often the first major milestone) requires 9:09/mile (5:41/km). A sub-1:45 half needs 8:00/mile (4:58/km), and sub-1:30 requires 6:52/mile (4:16/km). The chart above matches every finish time between 1:10 and 3:30 to its per-mile pace.

How do I calculate half marathon pace from finish time?

Divide your target finish time by 13.1 miles. A 2:00:00 half is 120 minutes ÷ 13.1 = 9:09.9/mile. Use the chart above to skip the math — every 15-second finish-time increment is listed with its pace and 5K/10K equivalents.

What is a realistic halfway split for a half marathon?

For a half marathon, the 10K (6.2 mile) split is the most-watched checkpoint — aim to pass it at roughly 47.3% of your goal finish time. A runner targeting 1:45 should hit 10K in about 49:40. A slight negative split (second half 30–60 seconds faster) produces the best outcomes.

How do I pace a half marathon with a PR goal?

Break the race into three 4-mile segments plus the final 1.1. Run the first 4 miles 5–10 seconds slower than goal pace, the middle 4 miles at goal pace, the next 4 miles 5 seconds faster than goal, and empty the tank over the last 1.1 miles. Most PRs are set with this negative-split pattern.
