Britain’s medal hope pulled through with a dominant victory in the women’s 800m final at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

With echoes of Mo Farah in her racing style, 22-year-old Keely Hodgkinson took to the front of the race at 300m and never let anyone in front of her for the rest of the race. With 100m left, she had a smooth increase of speed that was unmatched by anyone else in this stacked field.

Hodgkinson crossed the line in 1:56.72, edging out Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma, who took silver after stopping the clock at 1:57.15. Rounding out the podium was Kenya’s Mary Moraa, who ran a 1:57.42.

The women’s 800m had promised a thrilling and tight match-up, but Hodgkinson was the clear favorite. Just weeks before the Olympic Games, Hodgkinson dropped a hot new PB in the 800m at Diamond League London, clocking 1:54.
