The women’s 400m hurdles was a head-to-head battle between Team USA’s Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Dutch fan favorite Femke Bol.

After pulling one of the greatest anchor legs of all time in the mixed 4x400m relay, passing three competitors to win the Netherlands gold, it seemed like Bol may have been ready to edge out the most dominant 400m hurdler in the world, McLaughlin-Levrone.

However, the 25-year-old American confirmed her status as the best in the world when she not only claimed the title of Olympic Champion but also broke her own world record in the process.

McLaughlin-Levrone cruised to her gold medal, clocking a time of 50.37, beating out compatriot Anna Cockrell, who earned silver and stopped the clock at 51.87.

Bol rounded out the podium, securing herself another Olympic medal after running 52.15.
